January 18th 2018 - Blimey! This month is half over and I only just blinked. Funny how. time drags when you are a child and races by when you get to the other end of your life. Perhaps I'm just more conscious of how much of this resource we call 'life' is left.
Time passing is a constant reminder to me that, if I don't keep working on the current book, it may never be finished. I really want it finished. I have something to say about this experience of retiring and getting older. It has so much to do with who I am, why I am here and where I come from. I find more and more that my stories are intertwined with the other passion of my life, Family History. I begin to see very clearly that the way we are, the 'who' of our spirit comes from both our life experience and our ancestors' genes.
As I take Mairi through her discoveries of life after career, as she finds her new/old 'self, I find bits of myself that I saw in my parents, in my grandmother and in my children and grandchildren.
It's a journey of discovery, this writing of a novel. Got to get back to it!! If only Tiger's picture books would stop popping into my head. They don't leave me alone. He's a persistent little bugger.
